Fifteen Percent Pledge seeks an innovative leader to guide our organization at the intersection of business and advocacy into its next chapter of growth. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Pledge’s staff, programs, fundraising, budget, expansion, and execution of its mission. The ED will be based at the organization’s office in New York City.

Combining grounded leadership and sophisticated management abilities, the ED will advance the organization in terms of culture, network, processes, and impact. Working closely with the Chief of Staff, the CEO will inspire creativity and collaboration among the growing team of 12.

Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide thoughtful and visionary executive leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission
  • Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization and ensure its overall successful long-term operations
  • Organize, motivate, and mentor internal team leaders to strategically grow the organization’s impact, programs, and fundraising and to effectively fulfill its mission
  • Drive development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan
  • Develop, expand, and support an engaged Board of Directors
  • Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress and regularly evaluate program components so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other stakeholders
  • Continually foster a culture that encourages collaboration among staff and recognizes positive contributions

Financial Management and Administration:

  • Ensure the organization’s financial stability and sustainability by maintaining healthy cash flow and adequate reserves
  • Assume responsibility for the fiscal integrity of the organization
  • Develop and maintain quarterly Board-approved budget
  • Ensure maximum resource utilization, budget management, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position
  • Provide strategic leadership and hands-on management for all administrative and operational functions of the organization in accordance with its mission and policies
  • Prudently direct resources and manage all financials within budget guidelines and according to current laws and regulations

Fundraising and Communications:

  • Expand revenue-generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and growing headcount, leveraging the Board as needed
  • Initiate, cultivate, and extend relationships with the organization’s portfolio of individual, foundation, and corporate supporters
  • Use external presence and relationships to garner new marketing and fundraising opportunities for the organization
  • Represent the organization and serve as a spokesperson publicly at events, conferences, and partnership meetings
  • Present and promote the organization and its mission, programs, partners, and members in a consistently positive manner
  • Ensure high visibility to prospects and the public and build interest in engaged philanthropy

Board Governance:

  • Maintain regular and ongoing communication to build strong relationships with the entire Board, providing leadership and support to members at all times
  • Communicate effectively with the Board by providing members with all information necessary to continually function properly and make informed decisions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Attend all Board meetings and provide reports and updates on staff as well as all current work, project timelines, and project and organizational progress
  • Gracefully manage the board as needed to build consensus, remind of outstanding deliverables, and offer support

Qualifications

The ED will be thoroughly committed to the Pledge’s mission to close the racial wealth gap. All candidates should have proven leadership, fundraising, and relationship management experience.

Specific requirements include:


Track record of effectively leading and scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff; ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth


  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives
  • Experience managing $5M+ operational budgets
  • Track record of fundraising from individuals, institutions, and corporations
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with excellent judgment and the ability to anticipate challenges and develop solutions
  • Demonstrated capability to thrive in and enrich a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment
  • Organized, reliable, flexible, and attentive to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

Salary: $200,000-$265,000 commensurate with experience
